School Uniforms By Bree Griffith
Problem Statement: • We don’t have a school uniform and I think we should have them because it makes the school look better.
Why should we have a school uniform? • There are lots of reasons why we should have a school uniform… • Prevents gangs • Decreases conflict and theft because of clothing labels – stops competition • Helps create more discipline • Teachers don’t need to be clothes police • Reduces distractions for kids • Creates a sense of community • Helps schools recognise who is and isn’t part of the school – makes visitors obvious • Looks nicer and tidier • They can be cheaper for parents • They can save time in the morning because people know what to wear.
Why shouldn’t we have a school uniform? • Some people think we shouldn’t have a school uniform because… • Don’t get to be yourself – look everybody else • Can be really expensive for parents & you can’t use outside of school like your normal clothes • Can be a problem for some religions • There is no proof that it helps learning. • Lose individuality and creativity
Gathering my info… • I decided to do a survey because I could get peoples opinions so that I can get peoples opinions and how much people wanted a School uniform
What my survey told me… Did people want uniforms? No, but I wanted to do it The main reasons for having them were? You wouldn’t have to worry about ruining your own clothes. The main reasons for not having them were? You lost your individuality. The things we would need were? Girls: Polar fleeces, shirts, dresses & tights Boys: Shorts, shirts, socks & polar fleeces The most popular colours were? Black, blue with red & white close behind.
My solution is… • I designed a school uniform for boys and girls. • Girls: • Blue polo shirts with red & white logo & pukeko • Black pinafore dresses • Red polar fleece jackets with logo & pukeko • White tights • Boys: • Blue polo shirts • Black shorts or long pants • Red polar fleece jackets with logo & pukeko • Black socks with white & red stripe at the top
