  2. COMPONENTS OF CULTURE • SYMBOLS- Anything that stands for something else • LANGUAGE- A Standardized system of written and/or spoken symbols • VALUES- Shared beliefs about right and wrong

  3. COMPONENTS... • NORMS= Shared rules regarding situational conduct. • FOLKWAYS= Norms of less importance. Common customs. • MORES=Norms of great importance. No Murder or theft

  4. Components... • LAWS= Formalized mores. • A written rule enacted and enforced by government.

  5. Material Culture • Physical objects that people create • Example: Clothing, buildings etc.

  6. Nonmaterial Culture • A shared set of ideas or beliefs. • Example: Language, Norms, laws.

  7. Material Culture: Building Statue President Man Monetary system Nonmaterial Culture: Belief in God Liberty/Freedom Belief in governing body Importance of history/time The Penny……..
