DIESIS Main Data • DIESIS is a research project funded by the European Commission within FP7 • DIESIS is a Design Study for a specific research infrastructure (e-Infrastructure) • Instrument: STReP • Start date: February 1, 2008 • Duration: 24 months • Maximum EC contribution: 1.173.000 Euros • Person power: 142 PM • Partners (beneficiaries): 5 DIESIS Presentation

DIESIS main objectives • To establish the basis for a European modelling and simulation e-Infrastructure called EISAC byperforming a design study • To demonstrate • a technical proof-of-concept • a business proof-of-concept EISAC = European Infrastructure Simulation and Analysis Centre DIESIS Presentation
DIESIS: Technical proof of concept • Coupling three infrastructure simulators using DIESIS concepts • QoS based communication protocols • federated simulation bridges • semantically interoperable federation • Federate simulation bridges • modelling dependencies • dynamic coupling of simulators at runtime • time synchronisation DIESIS Presentation

DIESIS Ontology paradigm • The objective is to design and develop a Knowledge Base System (KBS) based on the ontological formalism that will: • enable the dynamic binding among different Critical Infrastructures (CI) simulator models; • provide the possibility to discover (inter)dependencies among different CIs; • allow CIs vulnerability & risk analysis. 3
The DIESIS KBS • The main KBS components are: • the Meta Knowledge ONTology (MKIONT); • the Federation ONTology (FONT); • the Infrastructure ONTology (IONT); • the Gateways that are located between the DIESIS middleware and the simulators: • Simulator Model; • Associative Table. 9
Realisation of a Data Link: Information in KBS • Relation “Power Supply”: …, {P05m, TO24}, {P06m, TO24}, {P07m, TO24}, … • Ontologies: SONTP, IONTP, FONT, IONTT, SONTT • Ontology transformation rules
Conclusion • DIESIS is a twofold design study for the EISAC, consisting of • technical proof-of-concept • “business case” / business proof-of-concept • The proposed EISAC should serve as a platform for joint CIP research DIESIS Presentation
Conclusion (2) • Benefits • cost reductions for setting up CI simulator federations • re-use of existing simulators and models • provision of validated data and databases • standards for interoperability • additional benefits • know-how in set-up and running federated CI simulations • management and analysis tools • M&S on CI community building • more … DIESIS Presentation
