Who were the Vikings and how do they affect the Russian People? • People who migrated from the North • Small bands of adventures • Called Rus (this is where we get Russia) • Settled with the Slavs • Slavs invited Viking chief Rurik to become their King Novgorod • Oleg moved the capital to Kiev along the Dnieper • Allowed to trade with the Byzantine Empire

What the heck?
