  1. Energy and WorkReview Game Brought to you by Physics™: It’s Universal!

  2. Rules • Write your team name on the board • Yes there will be extra credit as follows:1st place +7% on test 2nd place +5% on test Any team scoring higher than 5 gets +3% • This will be posted online with answers by the end of the day • Also, review session tomorrow online

  3. 1 • What is the final kinetic energy for a 10 kg object dropped from a height of 5.00 m? Would your answer be the same if the object slid down a frictionless slide 5.00 m high? Explain why

  4. 2 • What would be the final kinetic energy if a box slid down a slide 5.00 m high, with an angle of 45 degrees and a coefficient of friction of 0.4?

  5. 3 • A 10 kg object slides to rest in 4 seconds, starting from an initial velocity of 20 m/s. How far does it travel in that time? • Follow up: what impulse is exerted on that object?

  6. 4 • Complete the following relationships:3v  _9_KE4v  ___KE(1/10)v  ___P (momentum)(1/3)v ___KE10v  ___P

  7. 5 • A skater of mass 90 kg wants to pass through a 2.5 m radius loop. The minimum centripetal acceleration he needs to stay attached to the board is 2.5 m/s^2. What tangential velocity does this correspond to?

  8. 6 • Using the tangential velocity from the previous problem, how high must the starting ramp before the loop be in order to achieve this tangential velocity? (HINT: You want his velocity at the top of a loop radius 2.5 m; no friction)

  9. 7 • When a car is braking from its moving velocity to rest, the brakes apply a net force on the car to slow it down. Lets say a car on a flat level road starts at 15 m/s (or 33.5 mph) and the brakes can apply 10,000 N of force. If the car has a mass of 2500 kg, what is the braking distance of the car?

  10. 8 • From the previous problem, let’s say that the initial velocity of the car were to double. By how much do you predict the braking distance would change? No calculation here, I want a predicted value and explanation.

  11. 9 • A child starts at rest on top a 2.1 m high slide. The child has a mass of 36 kg, and when she reaches the bottom of the slide has a velocity of 1.5 m/s. How much energy has she lost to friction?

  12. 10 • From the previous problem, what is the frictional force exerted on the child by the swing over the 3.5 m down slope distance?
