Maritime Steel Foundry Limited Analyzing Production Process
Analyzing the drawing, Chemical & Mechanical Properties • MSF is able to produce all types of low and high alloy steels. Our first concern is to meet the needs of our customers. To ensure success, these two items are the first to be addressed. In some cases our metallurgists will discuss with customers to change the chemistry of their product, provided that it has the desired mechanical properties.
Analyzing Casting Design • Before a mould is made or a casting is poured, the MSF engineer renders the design using Solid Work and Magmasoft. This advanced, 3-dimensional technology not only allows you to "see" the casting before it's made, it provides the opportunity to test it for potential Material Flow or solidification problems.

Superior Ability in simulating … • Pouring and Filling Process • Solidification Process • Heat treatment Process • Porosity & defect distribution
Inspection requirement Chemical Composition • With the new Spectrolab, daily calibration and using ABS software for alloy addition calculation, we are confident about the accuracy of the final chemistry of MSF products. Generated Data by Spectrolab is saved directly to our data bank and monitored daily to prevent any problems.
Inspection requirement Mechanical Property • After arranging chemical properties with our customer, heat treatment process is defined to reach the desired mechanical properties. Mechanical properties of every single heat are controlled with our new Tensile test machine. Data verified and saved in our data bank for later use and traceability.
Inspection requirement Mechanical Property • By using our small lab furnace, Heat Treatment process is verified for desired mechanical properties. Approved Heat Treatment apply on two production heat treat furnaces in the shop.
Inspection requirementOthers • MSF control casting hardness, NDT ( X-Ray, Dye check, Magnetic Particle Test) and DT (Sectioning the casting) based on customer requests.
Process Control • After receiving and inspecting Mold Patterns, every step of production is controlled to be sure about the final quality. Some of these controlling steps are: • Mechanical property of Mold and core sand • Operation parameters in molding line • Tapping temperature & pouring time • Alloy addition by using ABS software • Mold Shake out time • Welding and cleaning of casting
Quality Control • MSF quality objectives are • Customer satisfaction • On-time delivery • Safe continues improvement of product and processes • Target reduced rework • Besides these controlling steps we are using an internal quality trend alert system which is originated by individuals in the workshop and which alerts us as soon as any issue occurs in the shop. Trends follow immediately and report send back to originator of trend alert.
Delivery Plan • On-Time Delivery Commitment. We continually strive to increase our On-Time performance by working with Customers and knowing their requirements. • As requested, we can arrange shipments throughout North America for our Customers using local carriers at the best competitive rates.
