  4. Thurstone’s Multifactor Theory Primary Mental Abilities: • Numerical Ability: ability to perform basic mathematic processes accurately and rapidly. • Verbal Comprehension:ability to understand ideas expressed in word form. • Word Fluency: ability to speak and write fluently. • Memory: ability to recognize and recall information such as numbers, letters, and words. • Reasoning:Ability to derive rules and solve problems inductively. • Spatial Ability: ability to visualize and form relationships in three dimensions. • Perceptual Speed: ability to perceive things quickly such as visual details and similarities and differences among pictured objects.

  6. Cattell-Horn Gf-Gc Theory • Stratum III -- the general level; general intellectual ability, similar to g • Stratum II -- the broad level; eight factors, including fluid intelligence, crystallized intelligence, general memory and learning, broad visual perception, broad auditory perception, broad retrieval ability, broad cognitive speediness, and processing speed. • Stratum I -- the specific level; more specific factors grouped under the Stratum II factors.

  13. Testing Intelligence Intelligence Quotient IQ=MA/CA X 100 • This term and formula are no longer used. Now we use Standard Score • A group of scores converted to standard score with a mean of 100 and standard deviation of 15 or 16 pg 156.

  14. Intelligence Test • Intelligence Tests Measure an individuals current intellectual ability level. • Achievement Tests: Measure what an individual knows or can do right now, in the present. • Aptitude Tests: Are future-oriented. Predicting what an individual is capable of doing with further training and education.

  15. Individual Intelligence Test Wechsler Scales, three intelligence scales developed for three different age groups • Wechsler Adult Intelligence Scale (WAIS-IV) Ages 16 to 89 • Wechsler Intelligence Scale for Children (WISC-IV) Ages 6 to 17 • Wechsler Preschool and Primary Scale of intelligence (WPPSI-III) Ages 2 to 17
