Defining Trends The West Bank Palestinian riots continued on a daily basis during the time of this report; over 57 major cases were noted, including instances in which rioters threw rocks and Molotov cocktails. Attacks against Israeli civilian vehicles are a growing trend. Arms were confiscated by IDF forces over the reported period as well, including ammunition and handguns. Terrorist attacks continue in the West Bank. During the period of 1 July — 15 July, there were attempts to assault IDF and BGP forces, as well as instances in which IED’s and light arms fire were used. Palestinian security force operations in the West Bank continue, but their scope and quality must be increased. When necessary, the IDF takes actions to prevent terrorist attacks from being carried out.

  3. Defining Trends The Gaza Strip Government policy on allowing goods into the Gaza Strip continues; crossings are now able to absorb over 300 trucks per day. During 1-15 July, 2,472 trucks transported 59,959 tons of supplies into the Gaza Strip. Hamas continues to act aggressively against Israel. In addition to Hamas’ own terrorist activities, the organization allows various terrorist groups to use the territory under it control to launch rockets and carry out other attacks. There has been a recent increase in rocket fire originating from the Gaza Strip. In the period relevant to this report, 14 rockets and mortars were fired at Israeli citizens. In response to these attacks, the IAF initiated pinpoint strikes against Hamas’ terrorist infrastructure in the Strip, such as tunnels, ammunitions manufacturing warehouses, and training camps.

  7. Major Events – West Bank July 1st July 1stA Palestinian was identified speeding in a vehicle towards an IDF checkpoint NE of the Hadar community. IDF soldiers initiated the suspect engagement procedure and fired warning shots in the air to deter the suspect. A number of Palestinians rioted and threw stones at an Israeli civilian vehicle north of the Karmei Tzur community, causing damage to the vehicle. A number of Palestinians rioted and threw stones at an Israeli civilian vehicle in the vicinity of the Beitar Ilit community. One Israeli settler was injured lightly. During Palestinian protests in the villages of Bi’lin, Na’lin, Oum Salmona, and Nabi Salah, a number of Palestinians rioted and threw stonesat IDF and BGP forces and towards the technical fence. Three Palestinians were injured lightly. A physical altercation occurred between a number of Israeli settlers and IDF soldiers in the Halamish community. The community’s security coordinator dispersed the riot. A number of Palestinians rioted and threw stonesat a BGP force north of the Ma’ale HaHamisha community

  8. Major Events – West Bank July 2nd - July 3rd July 2nd- Approximately 30 Palesinians gathered around the technical fence surrounding the Karmei Tsur community. An IDF force arrested one suspect who was later released. Approximately 60 Palestinians rioted and threw stonesat IDF and BGP forces NW of the Bracha community. The forces dispersed the riot. One BGP soldier was injured lightly A number of Palestinians rioted and threw stonesat anIsraeli civilian vehicle north of the Ma’aleh Shomron community. The Israeli vehicle sustained damage. Two Palestinians who had an argument fired light arms towards BGP forces who attempted t intervene in the altercation, SE of the Pisgat Ze’ev community. The force responded with light arms fire at the residence from which the suspects were shooting, and arrested one Palestinian suspect for the shooting. The suspect was taken for investigation. July 3rd-A number of Palestinians rioted and threw stones at an IDF force north of the Karmei Tzur community.

  9. Major Events – West Bank July 3rd – July 4th July 3rd cont’d –IDF forces confiscated several dummy grenades from a Palestinian during a mobilized patrol in the vicinity of the city of Hebron. The Palestinian man was taken for questioning. A Palestinian attempted to assault a BGP solider in the vicinity of the city of Hebron. The Palestinian man was taken for questioning by the Israeli police. An altercation occurred between a number of Palestinians and Israeli settlers near the city of Nablus, during which rocks were thrown by both parties. One settler was lightly injured. July 4th -A number of Palestinians rioted and threw stonesat anIsraeli civilian vehicle northeast of the Hadar community, inflicting damage to the vehicle. A number of Palestinians rioted and threw Molotov cocktails at an IDF force north of the Efrat community. IDF forces dispersed the riot. Approximately 1000 settlers rioted and threw stones at Joseph’s Tomb and attempted to enter the city of Nablus. One of the rioters tried to steal a BGP serviceman’s personal weapon. One Palestinian was injured lightly and one settler was arrested.

Major Events – West Bank July 4th – July 5th July 4th cont’d- During an initiated activity, a number of Palestinians rioted and threw stones and Molotov cocktails at an IDF force south of the Ram Oren community. IDF forces dispersed the riot. A Palestinian threw Molotov cocktailsat an Israeli vehicle in the vicinity of the Yad Hana community. The Israeli vehiclesustained damage. July 5th – A number of Palestinians rioted and threw stones at an Israeli vehicle in the vicinityof the Efrat community, causing damage to the vehicle. A number of Palestinians rioted and threw stones at an Israeli vehicle near the Na’aleh community, causing damage to the vehicle. IDF and BGP forces demolished three illegal Palestinian structures in the vicinity of the Sdei Bar, Alon Shvut, and Givat Netzer communities. In response, a number of Palestinians threw stonesat the forces. A number of Palestinians rioted and threw stones at an Israeli civilian vehicle southof the Shila community. The Israeli vehiclesustained damage.

  11. Major Events – West Bank July 6th July 6th – An IDF force found seven M-16 bullets and a handgun bullet while searching for weapons near the Eshkolot community. The arms were confiscated by the Israeli police. A number of Palestinians rioted and threw stones at a BGP mobilized patrol SE of the Pisgat Ze’ev community. The vehiclesustained damage. During an initiated arrest NE of the Givat Assaf community, a number of Palestinains rioted and threw stones at BGP forces. The forces dispersed the riot. One Palestinian was arrested. A number of Palestinians rioted and threw stones at a BGP mobilized patrol SW of the Beit Horon community. A number of Palestinians rioted and threw stones at a BGP mobilized patrol north of the Karmei Tzur community, causing damage to the vehicle. A number of Palestinians rioted and threw stones at an Israeli civilian vehicle in the vicinityof the Givat Assaf community. The vehiclesustained damage.

Major Events – West Bank July 6th – July 8th July 6th cont’d -A number of Palestinians rioted and threw stones at an Israeli civilian vehicle northof the Ma’aleh Shomron community, causing damage to the vehicle. July 7th- An IDF force arrested a Palestinian carrying an improvised handgun NE of the Vered Yeriho commuinity. The suspect was taken for questioning, and the handgun was confiscated. During an arrest south of the Karmei Tzur community, a number of Palestinians rioted and threw stones at anIDF force. A Palestinian attempted to assault a BGP soldier during a security check. The force arrested the suspect, who was taken for questioning. July 8th- A number of Palestinians rioted and threw stonesat several locations, including the villages of Na’alin, Nabi Saleh, Um Salmona, and in the vicinity of the Kedumim community. A number of Palestinians rioted and threw stonesat an IDF force NW of the Ram On community.

  13. Major Events – West Bank July 9th - July 10th July 9th- Approximately 70 Palestinians and Israeli activists rioted and threw stonesnear the Maon community. One activist was lightly injured. A number of Palestinians rioted and threw stones at an Israeli civilian vehicle northof the Ma’aleh Shomron community. The vehicle sustained damage. Approximately 150 Palestinians and Israeli activists rioted and threw stones at the Kalandia checkpoint. Approximately 80 Palestinians and Israeli activists rioted and threw stones in the village of Nabi Saleh. Approximately 25 Palestinians gathered NW of the Bracha community. IDF forces dispersed the Palestinians. An IDF force identified a suspicious Palestinian vehicle and initiated the suspect engagement procedure. The vehicle then fled the scene. July 10th- Anumber of Palestinians rioted and threw stonesat an IDF force in the city of Bethlehem

Anumber of Palestinians rioted and threw stonesat a BGP force during a mobilized patrol in the vicinity of the Nahal Kefira community.   15. Major Events – West Bank July 11th July 11th- Approximately five Palestinians rioted and threw stones at an IDF CP north of the Shilo community. IDF forces arrested the suspects. Approximately three Palestinians rioted and threw stones at an IDF CP west of the Shaar Binyamin community. IDF forces arrested the suspects. A number of Palestinians rioted and threw stonesat a BGP force NW of the Mitzpe Ashtamoa community. Two BGP soldiers were injured lightly but did not require evacuation. IDF forces initiated the suspect engagement procedure and fired toward a number of Palestinians who attempted to cut the technical fence west of the Eshkolot community. One Palestinian was injured lightly and was evacuated by a Red Crescent ambulance. Anumber of Palestinians rioted and threw stonesat an Israeli civilian vehicle north of the Hadar community, causing light damage to the vehicle. A number of Palestinians rioted and threw stonesat an IDF force SE of the Mevo Dotan community.

  16. Major Events – West Bank July 12th – July 13th July 12th-Approximately twenty political activists and Palestinians gathered and rioted in the city of Hebron. A number of Palestinians rioted and threw stones in the Karmei Tzur community. A number of Palestinians rioted and threw stones near the Har Adar community July 13th- During an arrest NE of the Beka’ot community, a Palestinian suspect threw an IED at IDF forces while attempting to escape a building. A second suspect proceeded to charge out of the building, prompting the IDF force to initiate the suspect engagement procedure and fire at the suspect’s lower body mass, killing the suspect. During a mobilized patrol, BGP forces identified two suspicious vehicles attempting to cross into the West Bank. The forces initiated the suspect engagement procedure for suspicious vehicles and fired thee gas grenades. Anumber of Palestinians rioted and threw stonesat Israeli civilian vehicles in the vicinity of the Ma’ale Shomron community. One Israeli vehicle sustained damage.

  17. Major Events – West Bank July 13th-July 15th July 13th cont’d-A number of Palestinians placed burning tires east of the Nili community. In response, an IDF mobilized patrol fired flares. Three Palestinians were identified cutting the technical fence east of the Elkana community. IDF forces initiated the suspect engagement procedure in order to deter the suspects. July 14th- A number of Palestinians rioted and threw stones at an Israeli civilian vehicle in the city of Hebron, inflicting damage to the vehicle. A number of Palestinians rioted and threw stones at an Israeli civilian vehicle near the Ariel community, inflicting damage to the vehicle. A number of Palestinians rioted and threw stones at an Israeli civilian vehicle near the Ma’aleh Shomron community, inflicting damage to the vehicle. July 15th- A fire erupted in the Kohav Ya’akov community. IDF forces initiated the suspect engagement procedureat a number of suspicious Palestinians at the scene. Over the weekend, several Palestinians and political activists rioted and threw stonesin the following places: Givat Shalem: Approximately 150 Palestinians and political activists Bil’in:Approximately 30 Palestinians Nabi Zalah: Approximately 40 Palestinians Na’lin: Approximately 150 Palestinians placed burning tires and threw stones Um Salmona: Approximately 50 Palestinians and political activists

  19. Major Events – Gaza Strip July 1st – July 5th July 1st- A suspicious boat was identified crossing approximately 3.2 miles into Israeli territorial waters. A navy patrol vessel initiated the suspect engagement procedures for suspicious vessels and fired warning shots in the air, after which the suspicious boat turned back. Two mortar shells were identified landing NW of Erez crossing. July 3rd-A suspicious boat was identified crossing approximately 1,500 yards into Israeli territorial waters. A navy patrol vessel initiated the suspect engagement procedures for suspicious vessels, after which the suspicious boat turned back. July 5th- The IAF initiated a pinpoint attack targeting a rocket launching cell identified NE of the Kissufim crossing. Two Palestinians were killed and two were injured. Shots were fired at a D9 bulldozer and an Israeli civilian tractor south of the Kissufim crossing. After IDF forces searched the area, it was revealed that three shots were fired at the vehicles. One bullet hit the tractor, which sustained damage. In response, the forces initiated the suspect engagement procedure and fired in the direction the shots came from.

  20. Major Events – Gaza Strip July 5th – July 9th July 5th cont’d- The IAF initiated a pinpoint attack targeting a Hamas tunnel intended for terrorist purposes NE of Karmi crossing. July 7th- An explosive device was detonated, targeting an IDF tank during an initiated activity south of Kissufim crossing. The tank sustained damage and an IDF soldier was injured. An IDF force discovered an IED during an initiated activity NW of Erez crossing. The IED was dismantled by IDF sappers. July 9th- A Palestinian’s boat was identified crossing approximately 5.3 miles into Israeli territorial waters. A navy patrol vessel initiated the suspect engagement procedures for suspicious vessels and fired warning shots in the air, after which the suspicious boat turned around. Two mortars landed in the vicinity of the Zikim base. IDF forces initiated the suspect engagement procedure and fired at the lower body mass of a suspiciouls Palestinian identified south of the technical fence, in the vicinity of Beit Lahia. The Palestinian suspect sustained a leg injury.

  21. Major Events – Gaza Strip July 10th – July 12th July 10th-The IAF initiated a pinpoint attack targetinga tunnel intended for terrorism near the city of Beit Hanoun. A mortar landed in the vicinity of Erez crossing. A suspicious boat was identified crossing approximately 2.5 miles into Israeli territorial waters. A navy patrol vessel initiated the suspect engagement procedures for suspicious vessels, after which the suspicious boat turned back. Two suspicious boats were identified crossing approximately two miles into Israeli territorial waters. A navy patrol vessel initiated the suspect engagement procedures for suspicious vessels and fired on the boats, which sustained hits and then turned back. A suspicious boats was identified crossing approximately 4.9 miles into Israeli territorial waters. A navy patrol vessel initiated the suspect engagement procedures for suspicious vessels. The boat sustained a hit and then turned back. July 12th- Two ‘Qassam’ rockets landed in the vicinity of Kibbutz Alumim and the Sa’ad junction. A nearby building suffered damage.

A suspicious Palestinian boat was identified crossing approximately 5.3 miles into Israeli territorial waters. An Israeli navy patrol vessel initiated the suspect engagement procedures for suspicious vessels and fired several warning shots. One rocket landed near the Ein Hashlosha community. A suspicious Palestinian boat was identified crossing approximately 3.4 miles into Israeli territorial waters. An Israeli navy patrol vessel initiated the suspect engagement procedures for suspicious vessels and fired several warning shots.

Navy patrol vessels initiated the suspect engagement procedures for suspicious vessels and fired on the boats, which sustained hits and then turned back.

One rocket landed in the vicinity ofKibbutzKfar Azza One rocket landed east of the Erez crossing. The IAF initiated a pinpoint attack targeting an ammunition manufacturing warehouse in the town of Netzarim. The IAF initiated a pinpoint attack targeting a Hamas outpost in the town of Khan Yunis. July 15th- The IAF initiated a pinpoint attack targetingtwo Hamas training camps near the city of Gaza, injuring four Palestinians. The IAF initiated a pinpoint attack targetingtwo tunnels intended for terrorist activities in the city of Rafah. A rocket was launched from the El Buridge R.C. and hit SE of the Karmi crossing
