  2. Expectations for Students All students will • Come to class on time with materials, homework, and current work. • Follow classroom routines and rules. • Complete class work and homework on time. • Respect classmates and teacher. • Work to the best of his/her abilities.

  3. Materials • Planner – please bring it and USE IT! • AVID binder • Writing Portfolio • Post-its • Highlighter • Pens/pencil

  4. We Believe: • reading is the most powerful tool for learning • active readers are better readers • you learn to read by reading • you learn to write by writing • you learn to communicate & use language effectively by talking about your reading and writing with others

Unit 1 : Changes in Me (personal narrative and expository essay) • Unit 2 : Changes in My World (short story and TV new story) • Unit 3 : Changes in Self Perception (letter and character analysis) • Unit 4 : Measuring Changes in Me (revising, reflecting, and publishing) • Unit 5 : Changing Times and Places (scene from a play)

  6. Units of Study • In every unit, students will focus on • sentence structure • capitalization • punctuation • spelling • word choice • purpose and audience

  7. Homework • SpringBoard Workbook pages • Writing entries • Drafting work • Revision and editing work • Grammar work • Publishing

  8. What is a Lexile Measure? A Lexile measure is a valuable piece of information about either an individual's reading ability or the difficulty of a text, a book or magazine article. The Lexile measure is shown as a number with an "L" after it . For example, 880L is 880 Lexile.
