  3. Civil Money Penalty (CMP) Funded Project $90,000 CMP $90,000 Match $180,000 Total project Project leads: Kevin Coughlin, DLTC Policy Initiatives Advisor-Advanced Pat Benesh, DQA Quality Assurance Program Specialist Protecting and promoting the health and safety of the people of Wisconsin

Project Description • Recruit 100 Nursing Homes. • Fully fund nursing homes to become certified as a “Music & Memory” (M&M) facility. • Fully fund M&M nursing homes with the required equipment for 15 residents. • Support M&M nursing homes through implementation of a M&M program and establish a process to continue this effective approach. • Link Wisconsin M&M certified facilities to a research agency for evidenced-based practice. Protecting and promoting the health and safety of the people of Wisconsin

What are the anticipated benefits? • Reduce the reliance on anti-psychotic and anti-anxiety medications; • Reduce agitation and sun-downing; • To enhance engagement and socialization, fostering a calmer social environment; • Provide a way to give pleasure to persons with dementia; Protecting and promoting the health and safety of the people of Wisconsin

More benefits! • To offer an enjoyable, fulfilling activity for people on dialysis, using a ventilator or who are bed-bound; • To increase cooperation and attention; • Resulting in the reduction of resistance to care and increased staff morale. • Increase the level of engagement with the person who has dementia with: family, friends, staff and the community. What will the nursing home receive? • Music & Memory Certification – listed on national webpage and Wisconsin webpage (http://musicandmemory.org/); • 15 iPod Shuffles, 15 headphones, 15 AC adapters; • 2 headphone splitters and a set of external speakers; • $150 iTunes Gift Card; and • Support and technical assistance. Music & Memory Certification • A series of three 90-minute webinars, taught by Music & Memory founding Executive Director Dan Cohen, MSW: • Webinar I: Getting Started • Webinar II: Setting Up Your iTunes Library and Personalized Playlists • Webinar III: Acquiring and Managing iPods • Listing as a Certified Music & Memory Care Facility on national website, a great resource for families seeking care facilities that offer the program in their communities. • Full year of coaching support via monthly conference calls and one-to-one consultations, as needed. • And more…. http://musicandmemory.org/landing/music-memory-certification-program1/. What will it cost the nursing homes? • No monetary investment. • The time commitment to fully participate in the certification process. • Thetime commitment to participate in the research component of the M&M initiative. Timeline • April 2013 - May 2013: Submission and approval of the CMP request. • May 2013 - July 2013: Stakeholder outreach, certified facility visits, as well as website development, logo, forms and processes. • July 2013 – September 2013: Recruit 100 nursing homes. • October 2013 – December 2013: Certify 100 nursing homes. • January 2014 - June 2014: Full Implementation. • July 2014 - June 2015: Research study & dissemination. • December 2013 - June 2015: Monthly video conference for support, technical assistance and the sharing of best practices. Nursing Home Recruitment • Video Conference July 16th, from 4:00 pm – 5:00 pm, using Adobe Connect (watch DQA Listserv) featuring: • Dan Cohen with Music & Memory; and • The staff of Rocky Knoll. • Applications due by August 15, 2013. • Letters of acceptance by September 1, 2013.
