NEW YEAR CELEBRATION!!. The new years is an important celebration for all the Greeks. We usually spend a lot of time with our family. Our grand-parents and our uncles come in our homes to celebrate together this day. Celebrations starts from new years eve!!.

  1. NEW YEAR CELEBRATION!!

  2. The new years is an important celebration for all the Greeks. We usually spend a lot of time with our family. Our grand-parents and our uncles come in our homes to celebrate together this day. Celebrations starts from new years eve!! At this night, the little children wait for Santa Claus (Agios Vasilis in Greek) to come and bring their presents.

  3. Before new year comes, we turn off the lights because the new year is coming and we say “Hronia polla”.Then we turn on the lights again. The children sing christmas songs and they open the presents.....

  4. At midnight the young people usually go out and have fun until morning.....

  5. At new year first day, in the morning we go to the church In the day, the people that celebrate (whose names are Vasillis/Vasiliki), usually go out with friends or they get all together at the house and have fun.

  6. The women of the family prepare the new years meal which conclude traditional foods like turkey hen and salads.After eating these, we cut a special cake which called “Vasilopita’’.In this there is a coin and the person who wins is Iucky for the all the year.
