A huge wave crashed violently onto Claire’s body. She wobbled and fell into the water, resulting in a loud thundering splash. Tirelessly, Claire climbed onto her surfboard for the eighth time in the day. Still energetic, she stood up and regained her balance. It was Claire’s third windsurfing lesson. She had wanted to learn the sport since a year ago. “Dad, please, it isn’t dangerous,” badgered Claire. “I don’t think you can take care of yourself. After all, you have just learnt swimming. Wait till you are good at the sport before we consider windsurfing,” Claire’s father insisted. It was finally after one year of practising at the pool that she was allowed to sign up for the classes. She was hoping that she could participate in the coming windsurfing competition for beginners. Claire could discern a chubby figure gesturing from the beach. Her father was always on time. He was there to pick her up. Claire waved back excitedly, already participating the ice cream session they would have after the lesson. She would then ask her father for permission to take part in the competition. She knew that he would definitely agree to it this time.
