  2. THE THERMOSTAT IS SET INCORRECTLY Check the thermostat settings when you find your house getting a little hotter than usual. Make sure the setting is "cool." Check the temperature setting if the thermostat is set to cool to be sure it hasn't been altered. Reset it to cooling mode if it is currently set to heat, constant fan, or off. Wait a few minutes after the system turns on before checking to see if chilly air is coming from the registers. Problem solved if it's chilly! Continue to the following step in troubleshooting if not.

  3. DIRTY AIR FILTER The interior air handler unit of your air conditioning system may have an air filter. As airborne particles reach the air handler unit, the filter traps them before they may do damage. Your home's cooling efficiency may be hampered by a clogged air filter. In more extreme situations, it may even result in a total system shutdown. Locate your system's air filter, switch the system off, remove the filter, and evaluate whether your thermostat is in working order but you still don't have cool air. You may need to go a little further to identify the issue if, after you are confident that your air filter is clean, your central air conditioner still fails to chill your home.

  4. THE CONDENSER UNIT IS BLOCKED An outdoor condenser unit is most likely a part of your central air conditioning system. A large external coil covers the majority of the condenser unit's exterior and is located there. The coil consists of several thin metal "fins" that are closely separated from one another. A condenser coil that is blocked or clogged may be the cause of your air conditioner operating but not reducing the temperature inside. The coil can get clogged by dirt, grass, and other airborne debris that collects between the fins. Reduced energy efficiency, a lack of cool air from the registers, full system shutdown, or excessive harm to the compressor are all consequences of a filthy coil.
