What is ADAMAGIC? • ADAMAGIC is a utility designed to extract data from ADABAS mainframe backups and prepare it for load on the server platforms, such as Windows, Linux and UNIX.
ADAMAGIC - making it simple to: • Convert mainframe ADABAS databases to UNIX ADABAS databases • Extract mainframe data on the server platform, automatically converting EBCDIC to ASCII and associated field formats to “CSV” or fixed flat files • Perform ADASTRIP like data extractions on the server platforms
ADAMAGIC - allows the user to: • Move all of an applications data in one simple step from mainframe to server • Use the User Exit facility to enable additional specialized processing prior to output • Automatically convert date formats & packed data to equivalent server formats • Easily create and populate test databases • Access historical data at a fixed point in time [i.e., a backup doesn’t change]

ADAMAGIC advantages: • One step data extraction process running on the server platform • Testing has no impact on live production environments and can be rerun many times • Output files can be: • loaded in a database • further processed by additional tools • input into TSI’s ADAREORG for further manipulation.
ADAMAGIC advantages: • Installation is designed to be straightforward and only requires minimal system knowledge – simply decompress the install file into a defined library and it is mostly installed • Only special requirement is for specific C libraries which are freely available from all OS vendors or the GNU C libraries are sufficient • Perform additional processing by invoking a UNIX script synchronously at the end of each output file, such as running the bulk loader for a RDBMS.
