You will start on the IMC webpage. Select the INFOhio Resources.
This is the INFOhio Homepage. Select the EBSCOHOST database.
Check mark box/boxes of databases you wish to search from. Click Continue.
This screen will show a total number and a list of results. You may add to your folder at this time, if you wish. A folder is a holding place for the articles you may be interested in reviewing later, at which time, you may want to print, E-mail, or save the articles. You may want to wait until you have read the articles to see if they meet the criteria of your project.
This screen will show information about the article you have chosen. Read the abstract to see if this article meets the criteria of your project.
If this abstract of the article does meet the criteria of your project, scroll down or click on HTML Full Text link, to view full text of this article.
This screen will show Full text of the article.At this point, you may want to add this article to your folder.
Within the article, the search term will be in bold letters.
At this point, you can go back to the result page, as shown below, and add pertinent articles to your folder by clicking on Add.
1. The folder will change from add to added. 2. The folder will show how many items it contains. 3. Click on View Folder at top of page for options. 3 2 1
Once you are in View Folder, you will be able to remove any article you wish. 3 options are given at this point. The first is to print. Click on print. 3 OPTIONS
Print Manager will appear. This will show you how many articles you have to print. Decide if you want the check marked items to occur. Click on Estimate Number of Pages.
This screen will show you in red how many pages will be printed from all the articles you have in your folder. If the estimated number of pages is 7-8, click print. If the number is higher you will need to select a new option. This option will disable the printer for other students. Click on View Folder at top of page. Select E-mail or Save.
E-mail Manager has been selected. This will also show you how many items are in your folder to be E-mailed. Type in the E-mail address of where you wish to send these articles. Type in Subject. Decide if you want the check marked items to occur. Click Send. You will receive a message that your E-mail was successful or unsuccessful.
This option is the Save Manager. This will show how many items you will save. Decide if you want the check marked items to occur.
The screen that will appear will show you how many articles that will be saved, list the articles and give you additional instructions on how to save the articles you have in your folder. You should save all articles to your H-drive for backup until your project is complete.
Another way to search is to click on the Advanced Search Tab. This screen will appear.
On this screen you will enter two or more search terms, this will narrow your search for you.
This will give you a different result list than your previous search. You may use all the same functions with this search, such as, adding articles to your folder. To expand your searching capabilities and learn how to use the advance search more in depth. Click on SEARCH TIPS.
This section will explain other searching possibilities to better help you search for your topic.
The next database within EBSCOHOST that we will search is TOPIC SEARCH
Now we will return to the EBSCOHOST home page. Click on Topic Search New Version.
This screen will show you which database you are searching in. Scroll down the page.
At this point, you may use the pull down menus to search in certain Current Event and certain Topic categories. Check mark Full Text. Click Search
This would be an excellent way to find a topic if you do not already have one selected, or search for current events for a particular subject, etc. There are a couple of ways to search in the Topic Search database. The first is to select a Current Event category or a Topic category from the pull down menu. Check mark the Full Text box. Then click Search.
If you search in the Earth Science Topic, this screen will reflect that information. A result list appears and you are able to choose from different references to be searched. Once again, you may use all of the same functions with this search, such as, adding articles to your folder.
A second way to search in this database is to do a Topic Search or Current Event search including a search term. Select a category from one of the pull down menus, and type a search term in the Find field. Check mark Full Text. Click on Search
This screen will give you a new result list within the Topic of Earth Science by narrowing your search to just articles pertaining to volcanoes.
