  3. Hookah • Also known as water pipes • Used to smoke specially made flavored tobacco

  4. Cigars • Dried and fermented tobacco rolled up • Often glamorized • Come in all ages, sizes, flavors • Cigars are made of cap, head, cigar band, and foot • Cigars are NOT safer than cigarettes

  5. Cigarettes • Finely cut tobacco rolled into paper • Also known as cigs, smokes, stokes • 1 out of every 5 people worldwide smoke cigarettes • Come in unfiltered, filtered, lights, ultra-lights, wides, long/skinny, and menthol

  6. Smokeless Tobacco • 6.1% of all high school students are current smokeless tobacco users. • Two main types • Chewing Tobacco • Snuff (“dip” and pouches) • NOT a healthy form of tobacco use

Health Effects of Smokeless Tobacco Use • Short Term • Ulcers • Mouth sores- 70% of smokeless tobacco users have mouth sores • Ruins sense of taste and smell • Increased blood pressure • Decreased athletic ability • Foul smelling breath • Stained teeth • Cavities • Gingivitis • Dizziness and nausea • Addiction

  8. Health Effects of Smokeless Tobacco Use • Long Term • Cardiovascular Disease • Stroke • Cancer- mouth, esophagus, pharynx, larynx, stomach and pancreas, etc. • Gum Disease • Tooth and Bone Decay

  10. Cost of Tobacco Use • Average pack of cigarettes- $4.50 • Average can of chewing tobacco- $3.00 • If you were to smoke a pack of cigarettes a day that would cost you $1,642.50 a year. • If you were to use a can of smokeless tobacco a day that would cost you $1,095 a year.
