After that, the student is required to fill in a form released by Unit PusatUniversiti (UPU) which consists of eight choices of the programs or courses and the local universities that the student want to choose. The meritocracy system was implemented since 2002 for admission into local universities. The selection is carried out based on the qualification of students and other factors, where 90% account for the academic and other 10% are from co-curriculum.

  5. Choosing a right course is an important process in a student's life before entering the university as the decision made will affect his or her future life. To avoid any wrong decision in choosing the right course, students can refer to their parents, teachers, friends or counselors for assisting them in making decision. The students also would like to make the decision by themselves based on their interests (Aldosary and Rahman, 2006). Despite the students are allocated with the course that they are interested or vice versa, there are still some impacts on their academic achievements.

  6. Academic achievement will directly affect the unemployment rate. According to Principal Statistics of Labor Force, Malaysia, January 2012, though the rate has declined to 3.0% but it is still very high as compared to other countries such as Singapore and Thailand. • (point form, reference)
