Great Britain wanted to expand their territory to the Ohio River Valley • ****Problem**** France is dominating the territory because of the fur trade and trapping business they have developed in America with the help from their allies (friends) Native Americans.
American Colonist take action! • 1753- Gov. of Virginia sends George Washington into the Ohio country to tell the French they were trespassing on their territory and must leave. • ****French Response**** Told Washington that they would take possession of that region.
As a result…. • Battles begin in 1754 and Great Britain does not officially declare war on France until 1756.
