9th grade Academic Goals • * Successfully transition students in to high school and build a safe and nurturing learning community. • * Develop student awareness and involvement in the Arts • * Establish a strong foundation of literacy skills and academic discipline.

Student Support Services:School Loop • *School loop is an online information center which aims to increase communication between parents, teachers, and students. • -Check grades • -Check homework • -Check for upcoming events and assignments • -Email teachers • *Both parents and students must register for school loop separately. • -Do this as soon as soon as possible (summer assignments will be posted by June 20th)
School Loop • School loop can be accessed at lbmillikan.schoolloop.com or through the Millikan website (www.lbschools.net/millikan) *Tips to remember: • -Grades change often at the beginning of each semester, especially with weighted grades • -Teachers post grades at different times • -Remember to check the “Progress Report” section to look at assignment records. • -Email teachers with questions
Compass Calendar • ORCH-A-BAND Spaghetti dinner. • Visit to Emerson Elementary to make Red Ribbon week T-shirts. For unscheduled 7/8 students • Annual Beach Walk benefiting Long Beach Children‘s Clinic. • Fall Play – Students help support performing arts. • Holiday Angels. • Have A Heart for Art with Emerson. • Musical 6:30 p.m. • Millikan Dance Concert. 6:30 p.m. • Visions night. Visions is the school’s literary arts magazine. • Garage sale to raise money for C.O.M.P.A.S.S. senior scholarships. • COMPASS Showcase and Awards. Participating students will help prepare for the celebration the week prior.
Beach Walk • Saturday October 25th 8:00 am – 12:00 pm • Family Event • Letter designed to distribute to family, friends, and businesses (see packet) • Millikan Beach Walk donation log sheet. • Starting early makes a difference • Wash cars • Babysitting • Order T-Shirts for $10 early (First 2 weeks of school)

Ram Crew • What is it? • Builds a partnership between upper classmen and freshmen • Dance/ football game • Check-ins/ Lunches with Ram Crew Leader throughout the year. • Designed to support ASB and increase school spirit. • Homecoming floats • Rallies • Event promotion
