Differentiation • Students learn in many different ways • Gardner states that there are nine different types of intelligences • I will focus on three: audio, visual, and kinesthetic
Learners Our targeted learners need to: • See things • Hear things • Feel or handle things This is how they process. The ClassMate incorporates all three of these learning styles

Media Specialist as a Leader As the Media Specialist I will: • Promote The ClassMate tothe SIT team and throughout the school • Promote reading as a critical tool for all students and teachers • Offer training before school starts with a representative from HumanWare • Have ongoing training as needed • Collaborate with teachers in their classrooms
The Concerns-Based Adoption Model (CBAM) Adult learners are different. • Awareness. Little or no concern about innovation • Informational. General interest—would like to know more • Personal. Want to know how it will affect them
The Concerns-Based Adoption Model (CBAM) con’t. • Management. Learn process and tasks of innovation—focus on information/resources • Consequence. Impact on students • Collaboration. Cooperate in implementing the innovation • Refocusing. Considers benefits and thinks of additional alternatives
The Assessment Summative • Give the students the Woodcock Johnson test as a baseline • Track test and reading scores throughout the year • SRI scores • Retest the students at the end of the year Formative • Student observations • Peer interaction with The ClassMate • Monitor daily assignments for understanding • Keep track of what students are reading
Funding Sources • Oak Ridge Baptist Church – our faith based partner in education • Local business donations • Fund raisers • Wal-Mart Foundation • Target Foundation • OSEP grant • Other grants
In Conclusion I think that The ClassMate will: • Help our special ed students become life long learners and enjoy reading • Raise HSA scores in English • Raise the self-esteem of our students • Give our students better opportunities after high school
