A raw look at how women view themselves… Perfectly, Imperfect…
This PSA deals with females in the entertainment industry (music, film, fashion) the perception of body image per industry’s standards, as well as the physical and psychological affects it has on not just these women, but all women. Women are constantly faced with societies views on how they should be look, act, be, and this causes a mental strain on any woman to be "perfect" in societies eyes.
The pressures to look the parthas become more important than being the part, and having the skills in doing so. The industry listens with their eyes and not their ears. Being objectified and sexualized, in a male dominated industry, women are pushing themselves towards risqué looks tp push products. Basically, it doesn’t matter how much real and raw talent you have, if you don’t look good, you’re not good enough.
Women in the industry are always in the spotlight, playing the part, which includes being admired and red carpet ready at all times, when it is really constant scrutiny and observation about their hair, body (weight), and clothing. (think award shows and the red carpet)
And not just a celebrity problem, many women are struggling to maintain these ideals. The influx of prescription, over the counter and illegal drugs has increased, as well as a raise in plastic surgery to construct body image.
With the media being the medium that brings these perfect coiffed, and constructed images to life, more women and teen-aged girls of all ethnicities are hurting them selves by conforming to be perfect by these industry and societies standards as well.
Even known celebrities have taken the “plunge to lose the pounds” just to conform to what the industry thinks.
All dying to be thin… Eating disorders and habits begin… In the end, some just die.. (above Brittany Murphy and Karen Carpenter, both victims of anorexia)
And new images like this begin to trend…. But it doesn’t have to…
The industry constantly meta morphs itself into believing what is beautiful, we say, beautiful is everyone, every shape, every color, every age…and many agree… Women are beginning to go against standards…and what was once defined as beauty is changing.
Changing the face of fashion, film and music, women are loving themselves…. And topping the charts, without gimmick, just talent.. (Adele, multi-Grammy award winner who out sold and out charted top contenders like Beyonce, Katy Perry, and Rhianna)
So, love the you that is YOU! You were made artistically to be awesome. Sometimes we don’t see it, and or believe it, but know, you are PERFECTLY IMPERFECT! There’s only 1 you, so use your gifts, and be great! Why? Because you are BEAUTIFUL, all of your flaws, curves and edges, that defines who you are. Simply, beautiful…
