...so what is CoCoRaHS? • Community Collaborative Rain, Hail and Snow Network • A nationwide network of volunteer observers who measure precipitation
27 states currently part of network • Adding at least 9 more by end of 2008 • Started in 1998 after devastating flood in Ft. Collins, CO
How is CoCoRaHS different? • Very high density network • Precipitation only

What does a CoCoRaHS observer do? • Uses standard 4” rain gauge • Takes daily rainfall measurement each morning • Enters data on CoCoRaHS website
What does a CoCoRaHS observer do? • May also measure snow depth and water content of snow
What does a CoCoRaHS observer do? • Observers may also submit special reports of heavy rain, snow and hail • These reports go directly to the National Weather Service to help with storm and flash flood warnings
What does a CoCoRaHS observer do? • Observer gatherings that combine fun and education
