OUR MEMBERSHIP CHALLENGE • To halt and reverse our declining membership. • To recruit and retain members.
Current Operating Model We need to ask ourselves Is it working? Are we attracting new Members to us?
SIGBI GROWTH PLAN 2015 Why does SIGBI need a Growth Plan at HQ and Club level? • SIGBI Membership in 2000 = 13,066 • SIGBI Membership in 2014 = 8,424 • SIGBI is losing members at a rate of 3-4% each year • SIGBI must grow if it is to remain a viable Federation

CLUB MANAGEMENT • Engagement of all your Members • Involving everyone in the Club’s activities • Members feeling valued • Programme Action at the heart of what you do • Reducing the bureaucracy • Fun & Friendship
SI Runcorn Frodsham & District • Membership declining/Members reluctant to bring potential members to meetings • Realisation that needed to do something/not fit for purpose • Club Meeting – all involved in discussion • Biggest problem was Club Meetings/wanted more social time • Planned year as a Club/all engaged/social time doubled • Officers – President as a figurehead plus Treasurer/Secretary and Programme Action • Other responsibilities divided amongst the Club • Action Points not minutes • Taken 2 years/ people prepared to stand as a President • 3 new members in the pipeline
OTHER IDEAS – an example • Pembrokeshire College WI - a workplace WI; the first of its kind to be set up in Wales. • Monthly meetings held during the lunch hour • Varied and lively membership, including lecturers, IT technicians and even a traditional farmer's wife. • Playing its part in the local community supporting local charities – such as local Breast Cancer Charity, the Pembrokeshire branch of the Alzheimer's Society, and CWTCH, a local support group for young adults with chronic health conditions.
CAMPUS CLUBS/SCHOOLS • New piece of work • Initial research complete • Beginning of journey • Needs careful planning
Youth/Student Membership DRAFT Proposals Campus Clubs • These can be in Universities or Colleges • They are open to Students and staff • Students (up to age 25) will pay 50% of the SIGBI capitation fee • Students over 25 and Non students who attend a Campus Club will pay the full SIGBI capitation Schools – Affiliation Groups • Open to secondary schools only • Target 16 to 18 years old girls • Linked to a local Club or Region, Encouraged to understand what we do, understand the issues affecting women and gender equality across the world • Engage loosely in some local/international project work Club Member • Individual young women from the age of 16 onwards may choose to join their local Club • They are full members of the Club • Reduced SIGBI capitation Fees being considered based on age Younger Persons Associate Membership • They will receive exactly the same benefits as an Adult Associate Member • Reduced SIGBI capitation Fees being considered based on age • Not linked to a Club
What next? • We await the decision on Associate Membership • Work will continue on Campus Clubs & Schools • Work continues on the Growth Plan • Membership Month – May 2016 • We hope you will take ideas forward in your Club or Region
In Conclusion • Recruiting more women into SIGBI will strengthen our voice and extend our reach, which helps us to transform the lives of more women and girls across our Federation. • We must act now to ensure that our legacy remains. • This is an exciting time in our organisation as we move to align ourselves with the lifestyle of today’s women. • We can not do it without you. We need your help to make it happen LET US LEAVE A LEGACY FOR THE WOMEN WHO WILL FOLLOW US.
