P11511 2010-3 / 2010-4 Fuser Bearing Life Measurement System https://edge.rit.edu/content/P11511/public/Home Customer: Xerox Corporation Reporting to: Melissa Monahan & Erwin Ruiz Project Leader: Mr. Argabright (ME) Project Engineer: Mr. Buonaccorso (ME) Lead Engineer: Mr. Dean (ME) Project Engineer: Mr. Eichenberger (ME) Facuilty Advisor: Dr. Boedo Facility Guide: Mr. Nowak Project Description To develop a bearing testing fixture for Xerox Corporation. This fixture emulates the running conditions of the iGen printers. The fixture will collect acceleration data the vibrations created by the bearing during operation. • Expected Project Benefits • Xerox Corporation will be able to characterize bearings over their life cycle. • A correlation between bearing life and physical properties of bearings will be obtained. • The Total Cost to Xerox (TCX) will be reduced in the remanufacturing process • The creation of a low cost test bed for bearing analysis • Customer Needs • Create a method to characterize physical properties of bearings used in the iGen line of printers over their physical life • Collect measurement system analysis • Characterize physical properties over the bearing's physical life • Document the procedure Thermal Simulation Shaft Life Calculation CAD Model Using Marin factors for the shaft chosen for this project, the endurance limit of the shaft was calculated. The maximum stress seen by the shaft due to bending was calculated to 3480 psi. Using this information, we found the factor of safety. Se=5515.56 psi for infinite life Giving us a Factor of Safety: N=1.585 A thermal simulation on assembly performed to help choose a heater with specifications necessary for simulating operation temperatures Final design modeled with Solidworks CAD software. LabVIEW Interface A LabVIEW interface was coded to control the operation of the machine (Simulated Data) • Future Improvements • 1 Better heating method that will not • compromise signal quality • 2 Oil / Water System for more precise • loading with pneumatic system • 3 Improved ease of bearing mounting
