  3. Civic Struggle • Elizabeth’s father, Henry VII was searching for a wife that would bear him a son. Because Anne Boleyn, Elizabeth’s mother, did not she was beheaded. Henry had as many as six wives, and out of those he got three children. Edward, Mary, and Elizabeth. • After Henry died in January of 1547, Edward became king. But he was a weak ruler, and died after only a year of ruling. • Mary, Elizabeth’s older half-sister became Queen after that. Mary was always jealous of Elizabeth and treated her cruelly. • It would seem that Mary was pregnant, but upon her death she had no child, and many historians believe that what was actually inside of her was a large ovarian cyst.

  4. Queen Elizabeth • After Henry the VIII’s reign, England’s people were tired, and their military, economy, and reputation were falling apart. They were very ready for a strong ruler. • Elizabeth was a level-headed, fun loving person, and was in her twenties when she took the throne. She had lots of pressure from the people to bring their nation back to earth, and that is exactly what she did.

  5. The Elizabethan Era • Elizabeth’s reign came to become a golden age., and lasted long after she died. • England had never been more powerful, and was one of the leading countries of the world. • Many people became literate, and education became essential. • The country flourished in knowledge, power, and relief from the awful reign of Henry VII. • Elizabeth soon became a household name, because she had saved them from an economic and political downfall.
