  9. What can we still be sure about in learning ? • It is much easier for students to communicate with others than before • It is cheaper than ever to communicate • We have less control over communication • We often know less about ways of communication than our students • We are often less technically aware than our students • Most of us like games • Practice still makes perfect !

  10. 21 Characteristics of 21st Century Learners • Want to have a say in their education.  • Often have higher levels of digital literacy than their parents or teachers. • Expect transparency in their parents, teachers and mentors. • Want you to tell them when you have messed up, apologize for it, and move on. • Don’t care as much about having a job as they do about making a difference. • Demand the freedom to show their wild creativity. 21st century learners balk at rote learning and memorizing.

Appreciate a “trial and error” approach to • learning new skills. • 11. Learn by doing. • 12. Have a “can do” attitude • 13. Thrive in an atmosphere of controlled • challenge. • 14. According to Henderson and Berla (1994), "the most accurate predictor of a student's achievement in school is not income or social status but the extent to which that student's family is able to: • Create a home environment that encourages learning. • Express high (but not unrealistic) expectations for their children's achievement and future careers. • Become involved in their children's education at school and in the community.
