  3. Hatchery Location • The Port Armstrong Hatchery is a non-regional, private non-profit facility owned and operated by Armstrong-Keta, Inc. • The hatchery is located at the outlet of Jetty Lake in Port Armstrong near the southern tip of Baranof Island along Chatham Strait.

  10. Pink Release Strategies • Early years = early (Mar-Apr) and small (0.3-0.4g), results mixed low and high marine survivals • Recent years = Late (June) and Large (0.7-1.2 g), results low marine survivals • Near future = May 1 and as large as possible

  11. Port Armstrong Coho Production • Began with BY88 • Deep Cove and Sashin stocks • 7% average marine survival BY88-05 • 3% marine survival BY05

  12. Coho Release Strategies • Early years = Mid May and 18-22g, mixed low and very high marine survivals • Recent years = Early to mid June and 22-27g, low marine survivals • Near future = Mid May and as large as possible (smaller into winter, push spring growth)

  13. Port Armstrong Chinook Production • Began with BY85 LPW Unuk River stock, discontinued in 1992 • Restarted with BY01, LPW Unuk River stock • BY01 had 4.5% marine survival, BY02-04 not as good (~1%) • Began Zero check program with BY06

  14. King Release Strategies • Smolts into SW netpen w/FW lense in fall until Nov/Dec, over-winter in SW netpen, 35-50g early may release • Zero checks pond in Nov, indoor rear until early May transfer to SW netpen, 10g late May/early June release

  15. Port Armstrong Chum Production • Began with BY84 Security Bay Fall chum, discontinued in 1992 • Restarted with BY03 Hidden Falls stock • Marine survivals low so far (~0.5%) • Still trying to get up to full production (30 million), eggs difficult to obtain
