Functional Skills Question (Shape 1) For the week beginning .....
This question involves: ·Area of simple shapes ·Area of a circle Foundation: You might not want to try the area of a circle, but you could adapt the questions at the end to include a mask which uses the area of triangles? There are also opportunities to make this quite practical by getting students to make different masks and calculating the area and perimeter of each. Extend pupil thinking by asking similar questions as below but again with simpler shapes than circles. Higher: Students should be able to attempt all parts of the question. Some discussion in class about approaches they have used will be valuable. You could also extend this to ask the question 'Can you make a mask which has an area of 4r2 + ¾πr2?' Or 'What is the perimeter of your mask etc.' It is important to mark this piece of work carefully and ensure that you give students some formative feedback
