AARP Mobility Resources • The Getting Around Guide: An AARP Guide to Walking, Bicycling and Public Transportation(PDF): This guide can help you take advantage of fun, healthy, and economic ways for getting around your community. It provides tips for walking, biking, and taking public transportation or other transportation options, including how to find and use them, and what you can do to advocate for change, whether you live in a small town, suburb, or big city. • La Guía Para UsarOtrosMedios de Transporte (PDF): A Spanish translation of the Getting Around Guide (see above). AARP Mobility Resources • Sidewalks and Streets Survey: This tool kit, housed on the AARP Create The Good website, helps make walking safer by teaching small groups to utilize simple walkability surveys in their communities and implement improvements based on the survey results. Also available in Spanish (PDF).Pedestrian Mobility and Safety Audit Guide:  Produced by the Institute of Traffic Engineers and AARP, this guide can supplement the Sidewalks and Streets Survey (above). It gives additional ideas on what to do before undertaking the walkabilitysurvey so that improvements can be made more successfully after the survey has been completed. AARP

AARP Mobility Resources • Promising Approaches for Promoting Lifelong Community Mobility(PDF):Produced by University of Michigan Transportation Research Institute with support from AARP, this guide highlights programs and initiatives that hold promise for enhancing the safety and mobility of older adults across the nation. • Areas covered in the guide include: • driver screening and assessment, • education and training, • vehicle design and advanced technology, • roadway design, • transitioning from driving, • transportation coordination, and • alternative transportation options. AARP Physical Activity Resources • Co-leads the policy and advocacy sector of the National Physical Activity Plan • Continues to help reduce the cost barrier to exercise by offering discounts at health clubs and with highly skilled personal trainers • Offers significant savings on select walking DVDs and Walk Club memberships • Conducts 10-week walking programs in local communities in collaboration with national (NRPA, MFA, LFA) and local organizations AARP

  7. AARP Physical Activity Resources • Built and launched the Fat 2 Fit weight-loss program on the AARP website . With a launch in June 2010, it has garnered 16,000 participants since then. • Built a new fitness space on the AARP website, www.aarp.org, that features walking and fitness content, including tips from fitness ambassador Martina Navratilova, two interactive exercise programs (Step Up to Better Health and Get Fit on Route 66), and walking groups in the community. • Hosts a link to a facility locator that helps users find age-friendly facilities and programs.
