  2. What is Prophecy? 1. a. An inspired utterance of a prophet, viewed as a revelation of divine will. b. A prediction of the future, made under divine inspiration. c. Such an inspired message or prediction transmitted orally or in writing. 2. The vocation or condition of a prophet. 3. A prediction.

  3. Why Study Prophecy? • Bring people to the Love of God. • Those who know God, to bring them to a closer understanding of the Love of God. • To understand what the future holds for our walk with God and this world.

  4. Methods of Prophetic study • Preterism • Comes from Latin “praeter” means past • The belief is that all Biblical prophecy was fulfilled in the 1st Century. • Futurism • Is the view that all prophecy both literally, physically, globally and apocalyptically will be fulfilled sometime in the future • Historicism • Where the prophecies start with the time of the Prophet but ends and focuses on the time of the end.

  5. Date for Daniel. • Daniel 1:1 (pg.855) • 609BC Josiah dies in battle. (2Ki:23:29) • His Son Jehoahaz became king, was replaced by his brother Jehoiakim (608BC) • 3rd Year will be 605BC.

Whats in a Name? • Daniel = God is my judge • Hananiah = Jehovah is gracious • Mishael = who belongs to God • Azariah = Jehovah Helps • Belteshazzar = Bel protects the Kings Life • Shadrach = Servant of Sin • Meshach = the shadow of the prince • Abednego = Servant of Ishtar. • Bel = Sage of the Gods, God of Wisdom • Ishtar = Goddess of Love and War • Sin = Moon God.
