  3. Issues • Severe drought and sandstorms have led to famine in the area. • Poor mining skills have allowed toxic waste to pollute the land. • 35% of the adult population has AIDS • The life expectancy in Zimbabwe is only 32 years.

  5. Zimbabwe and Botswana • The Zimbabwe Territory is made up of two countries: Zimbabwe and Botswana. • Located in south central Africa, they were formerly known as Rhodesia (Zimbabwe) and Bechuanaland (Botswana). • Zimbabwe is about the size of Montana and Botswana the size of Texas.

Salvation Army on call • The Salvation Army runs four hospitals in the territory. • In addition to numerous schools, The Salvation Army has seven vocational programs to help people find jobs, • A new Salvation Army songbook (hymnal), written in the native language of Shona, has been published. • The Masiye Orphan Training Center assists children orphaned by AIDS by teaching home management skills and offering counseling.

  7. Medical and educational care • The Salvation Army’s Howard and Tshelanyemba Hospitals provide excellent medical care to many people throughout the region. • Usher Secondary School and Howard High School bring a Christian perspective to education.

Thanks to your gift, the Zimbabwe Territory could: • Purchase two new vehicles • Buy an ambulance for the Tshelanyemba Hospital • Make renovations on the Braesdie Social Service Center • Upgrade their communications equipment • Provide training and equipment to officers • Help the territory take part in the 2005 All Africa Congress
