Differential Feed The serger has 2 feed dogs to move the fabric through the machine. The differential feed controls how the feed dogs work together. The N is the normal setting, both feed dogs move the fabric at the same rate. Settings above the N (1.3 to 2)cause the fabric to gather. Settings below the N stretch the fabric tighter adding stretch and preventing puckering. gather stretch
