ICT’s in Education in Nepal • ICT for instruction in school education • Master Plan includes: • ICT infrastructure; internet connectivity • Laptop for child in 26 schools; 6 districts • Developed digital learning materials for: • Nepali, Math, English and Science • Computer in 3038, and • Internet in 85 schools • But, this initiatives forgot use of SM
Uses of Social Media Perception regarding Social Media • Parents- Social media interrupts children • Student- Very much essential in study • Teacher- Moderate United States Recent study shows: • 96% of student use social media & networks • 60 % use for educational subjects • 76% parent felt SM improves reading and writing • support educational activities by making: • interaction, collaboration, participation
Face Book Uses • FB from school perspective • Educate students on the proper utilization • Students today demand more: • Autonomy • Connectivity • Interaction and • Socio-experiential • Involving students in achieving: • Learning tasks and • Successful transfer of knowledge • Developing positive attitude towards learning • Enables teachers for constructive teaching
Analysis • Less prioritization in SM in ICT policy • Focuses on distribution of Computer, printer (hardware) • No focus on SM in curriculum • Cultural reproduction • Traditional mind set of bureaucracy • Functional-structural maintenance • Expensive technology
Promoting SM • Expensing the use of Internet • Counseling, monitoring • Communicate about school activities • Promoting for the positive use of SM • Motivate parents and teacher to use SM • Communicate all the activity through SM
