  2. What is Krakatoa? • Krakatoa is a volcano located in Sunda Strait Indonesia. • It best known for the eruptions on August 26-27, 1883. • The four main eruptions were some of the most violent eruptions ever recorded.

  3. Effects. • The Eruptions were so loud that you could hear them up to 1,930 miles away. • The whole island was destroyed, effecting thousands of people. • More than 36,000 people lost there lives, during those two days.

  4. Effects (continued). • Some people speculate that the death toll could be as high as 120,000. • Tsunamis, volcanic ash, and pyroclastic flows also had a big effect on the island and it inhabitants.

  5. Today. • krakatoa is still active today. • The last know Eruption was in April 2008. • People were advised to keep a “3KM zone around the island”

  6. Today (continued). • Krakatoa is still growing at a amazing rate of “5 inches a week. • The Equivalent of “6.8 meters per year, ( of about 22 and a half feet per year.)
