2. Incognito • with your true identity kept secret (as by using a different name or a disguise) • He was able to sneak into the private party incognito by pretending to be a waiter.

3. Jejune • not interesting • too simple • She made jejune remarks about life and art. • Eric thought that the piano concert was jejune.

4. Uncanny • strange or unusual in a way that is surprising or difficult to understand • She had an uncanny resemblance to someone I had seen before. • She has an uncanny sense of direction.

5. Deleterious • damaging or harmful • The chemical is deleterious to the environment.

6. Predicament An unpleasantly difficult, perplexing, or dangerous situation. Because the economy is bad and there are fewer jobs, college graduates are in a serious predicament once they graduate.

7. Subtle Not immediately obvious or comprehensible; difficult to detect; faint. The clues about who the bad guy was were so subtle that it was nearly impossible to figure out who it was.

8. Demur To raise doubts or objections; to hesitate; to show reluctance. “Uh, teacher,” the student demurred for a moment, “can we have nap time?”

9. Malevolent • Evil • Having or showing a desire to cause harm to another person • There was something malevolent about the house.

10. Tedious • Long and tiresome; monotonous, boring • I would never tell the teacher this, but these power points are really tedious.

11. Hasten to move or act quickly We must hasten our pace if we want to everything done before class is over.
