Starting With eggs! Butterfly eggs are extremely tiny. Most are less than one tenth of an inch (3 millimeters) long.
Eating Machines! An Archduke Caterpillar from Malaysia munches on a leaf. It is covered in spines and irritating, distasteful hairs so that birds and other animals would not want to eat it.
Life Cycle Of a Butterfly! Butterflies have four life stations. It is larva, pupa and adult. First a adult butterfly lays eggs. The eggs hatch and they turn into a tiny caterpillars. The caterpillars eat and eat and eat until they are fat as a fat spider’s tummy. They wrap themselves in a cocoon. They wait a few weeks and then they hatch. The caterpillars turn into a beautiful butterflies.
