What are coaches looking for in a prospective student athlete? • Ability – skill, technique, athleticism, tactical knowledge, decision making • Attitude – leadership, work rate, motivation, character • Academic success • Interpersonal skills
Number of college soccer programs • Division 1 – 203 men’s soccer / 328 women’s soccer • Division 2 – 204 men’s soccer / 255 women’s soccer • Division 3 – 408 men’s soccer / 197 women’s soccer • NAIA – 193 men’s soccer / 197 women’s soccer • NJCAA – 216 men’s soccer / 184 women’s soccer
Number of Scholarships • Division 1 – 9.9 men / 14 women • Division 2 – 9 men / 9.9 women • Division 3 – no athletic aid available • NAIA – 12 men / 12 women • NJCAA – 18 men / 18 women
An athlete will have 4 year of eligibility in a 5 year period after high school graduation Division 1 Athletic requirements: • Complete 16 NCAA core courses • Earn at least a 2.3 GPA in your core courses • Earn an SAT combined score or ACT sum score that matches your core – course GPA on the Division 1 sliding scale Division 2 Athletic requirements • Complete 16 NCAA core courses • Earn at least a 2.0 GPA in your core courses • Earn a composite of 820 score (math/verbal) for SAT and a sum score of 68 for ACT
9th and 10th Grade • NCAA Core Courses • Register with the NCAA Eligibility Center • Begin reaching out to College Coaches • Start attending college ID camps of schools you are interested in • Visit Schools to see what you like Coaches cannot initiate contact at this point in time
Sept. 1st of Junior year • Coaches can begin contacting potential student athletes • Official and Unofficial Visits with Coach A prospective student athlete can contact a coach at any time or year in school
11th Grade • Take SAT or ACT • Get a copy of HS Transcript 12th Grade • Retake SAT or ACT, if necessary • Request final amateurism certification by April 1st • Upload Final Transcripts/Test Scores • NLI/LOA No Recruiting path is the same
