Flightless Cormorant/ Galapagos Cormorant • Native to the Galapagos Islands. • It is the only cormorant that has lost the ability to fly. • Has webbed feet and powerful legs that propel it through ocean waters as it seeks its prey. • They feed near the sea floor and no more than 100m offshore. • They look slightly like a duck. • Have short, stubby wings, long , hooked beak, and the eye is turquoise. • Feathers are not waterproof so they spend time after each dive drying their small wings in the sunlight. • Air trapped in their dense plumage helps prevent them from becoming waterlogged.
