Industrial Application Theme Groups • A Theme represents a generic problem area within industrial process operation. • A Theme Group will advise on the research activities required to satisfy the specific needs of a Theme. • The Group will propose projects, within a theme, to the Steering Committee for approval and resource allocation. • A project will be assessed against a set of project selection criteria, which will be designed to ensure both benefit to the member companies and which for future evaluation of project success. • The Group will also review progress of on-going projects.
Industrial Application Theme Groups • The Group members will consist of "problem owners" (e.g. plant managers, plant engineers, chemists, etc.) as well as technical specialists (i.e. industrialists and relevant academic(s)) and the CPACT Director. • Each Theme group will meet on a six-monthly basis. • The Group will not provide technical input or direction to the individual project teams.
Technology Teams • Technology Teams will comprise the relevant academics, associated Ph.D. students and/or PDRA's and industrial members with expertise in the technology. • The technology teams will provide expertise across a range of disciplines with the potential to support the activities within all of the Themes. • It is envisaged that the members of a particular Technology Team will participate in the activities of a number of projects.
Project Teams • Two types of projects exist • Research Projects • Technology Transfer Projects
Research Projects • The primary purpose of research projects is to develop new techniques or methodologies for which an industrial challenge has been identified. • The Project Team will include Industrial Representative(s) and members of the required Technology Teams, including the appropriate Academic leaders. • The Industrial Representative's will ensure alignment of the research with the industrial requirements and where appropriate will provide technical input. • Both industrial and academic members will be able to submit project proposals to the appropriate Theme group.
Technology Transfer Projects • Technology Transfer projects will implement/demonstrate existing technology, or technology developed within a Research Project, within a member company. • Industrial members (end user and vendor organisations) will submit technology transfer project proposals. • These "proof of concept" projects may be proprietary in nature, on the condition that full details of the "generic learning" are reported back to the CPACT membership. • Technology Transfer teams will consist of an Industrial Facilitator, an Academic Leader and the appropriate PDRA/Ph.D. student.
Technology Transfer Projects • The Industrial Facilitator will be responsible for identifying within their own organisation the resources required to implement the technology transfer and to ensure that these resources are made available. • The Industrial Facilitator will arrange access for the PDRA/Ph.D. student.
Project Teams • Project Team’s will meet as and when required with project progress being reported back to the Theme Group under which the project was proposed.
