Poly(DMAEMA-b-t-BMA) Poly(DMAEMA-b-MAA) Poly(DMAEMA) Synthesis of Polyampholyte Brushes ● Polyampholytes are polymers that contain both negatively and positively charged groups ● Polyampholytes exhibit opposite salt effect behavior compared to polyelectrolytes (one type of charge on chain) ● With added salt, the polymer brush thickness increases due to screening of the charged groups on the polymer (see table) ● The decrease in film thickness after pyrolysis reflects weight loss and attractive electostatic between acidic and basic groups aThickness measured by ellipsometry. All values ± 1 nm. bPolymer brush thickness after immersion in 0.5 M NaBr overnight. W. J. Brittain DMR-0423786 Program Officer: Andy Lovinger Langmuir 2006, submitted for publication.
