  7. TROPICAL CYCLONE • Tropical cyclone season for the SW Pacific starts: 1st Nov _ 30th April. • TC names (WMO RAV TC committee for the SW Pacific) • TC Area of Responsibility: • Marine (EQ-25S; 160E-120W)

Tropical Cyclone Services • Forecasts and Warnings forFiji, Tonga, Niue, Cook Islands, Tuvalu, Tokelau, Kiribati, Banaba, Nauru. • Tropical Disturbance Advisories/Summaries to all National Meteorological Services in the region and elsewhere. • Tropical Cyclone Advisories for international air navigation in area Equator to 40ºS btn 160ºE to 120ºW. • TC Sigmets- Within Nadi FIR • International marine warnings for area from Equator to 25ºS between 160 º E to 120 º W. • CREX to NWP Centres

Needs and Requirements • More data in data sparse areas eg ocean area • Hourly observations and upper air data from Island countries • Global models- model for Fiji and other Island countries • Climate data for Island countries • Capacity development especially in disaster risk applications such as hazard and impact analysis • Need to establish hazard data archives • Education and outreach activities directed at key stakeholders and the public at large

  10. SWFDDP • MetConnect Pacific- used daily by forecasters • FMS provides 3 monthly reports to MetConnect Pacific on severe weather which affected Fiji like Heavy swells, Heavy rain, strong winds.
