Technology and Social Engineering • In 2002, the journal Contemporary Psychology: APA Review of Books was losing subscribers and money • Reviewers agreed to review books but then never did them • Latency issues impacted the journal’s relevance to science • APA’s publisher, Gary VandenBos, PhD believed that the review of monographs was still important to science

Technology and Social Engineering • Dr. VandenBos converted the Journal to a database and called it PsycCRITIQUES. • He devised a web-based system where editors could easily build a database of reviewers and classification systems for their areas of expertise • He created a workflow where portions of the books were digitized for an initial review by the Editor • A web application was deployed to allow Editor to receive PDFs, then select qualified reviewers via a search • E-mails were deployed; the first reviewer to click the link in the e-mail would get the print copy of the book. • Remaining reviewers would be notified that the review opportunity was closed.

Expansion of the Trust Network • Trusted Communities will arise out of robust and secure Community Intranets • “Facebookitzation” of scientific guilds and trusted claim validation will drive demand outside the guild • OpenID/Information Card Stack will provide machine-to-machine trust • Guilds need to develop robust Trusted Claims within the scope of their community first, then extend those claims in a formal agreement as a certified Open Identity Provider

Light, Layered & Extensible Framework for Trusted Claims • Light- no single code source- easy for professionals to obtain, install, and certify- “interoperable”, with ability to plug into existing APIs • Layered- all levels of trust need to be explicit in the transaction- OpenID users should always have ability to extend or retract their own trusted claims- a “reboot” of identity would revoke all extensions of a trusted claim, but not the trusted claim itself • Extensible- each Identity Provider has the ability to add its unique trusted claims to the Identity Stack as an extension to the underlying OpenID Information Card Stack
