You may want file for your superannuation claimsbefore you leave. That’s additional savings you can set aside—orready for your next Aussie holiday! We’ve previously outlined a few other tax claims you can file for, and for this edition, we’re focusing on your superannuation contributions and how you can claim some savings from it. What are Superannuation Contributions? Superannuation contributions (aka, ‘super’) are compulsory deductions docked from your pay and placed into a retirement fund for you. This deduction is taken by your employer from your work income, bonuses, commissions, and other compensations and financial benefits you enjoy. Filing your DASP application and requirements While there’s no deadline to filing your super claims, the best scenario would be to do it before you leave Australia. You will need to file a Departing Australia Superannuation Payment (DASP) claim, and these following requirements: Completed DASP application form Visa information. You should be holding an expired Working Holiday visa (417), a Work and Holiday visa (462), or aBridging Visa. If your visa is still currently active, request the Department of Home Affairs to cancel it. Check with your employer:
