Methodology “How did we do it and who did we talk to?” • 1,028 interviews were conducted over the internet among Intuit’s APD database. The sample was designed to achieve a mix of Lacerte, ProSeries, QBAE and non-Intuit product users. Total completes by segment are as follows: • Full Service - 452 • CFOs for Hire - 216 • Established Institutions - 83 • Hungry - 153 • Tax Driven - 198 • Content – 115 • Simple Pros - 83 • Other – 378, of which Outsourced Bookkeepers are 330 • Interviews were conducted late May, 2008 • Respondents were screened to ensure they are decision-makers or influencers of technology purchases in their firm • Results are weighted to reflect the actual incidence of Full Service and Tax Driven firms within the accountant market

Features of Firm Website • Although only 29% of accountants have a website, all of these have the basics. Current Device Ownership With the exception of cell phones (or iPhones) with email and web capabilities which a fair number are still considering, accountants already own the consumer technologies in which they have an interest 89% own a cell phone vs. 75% of adult Americans, according to the Pew Internet Project (12/07) Ownership of all of these devices skew based on age, with the exception of the standard cell phone. Scanning & Online Applications Behaviors in Professional Life • While more than half of accountants use scanners, only one-fourth are using source doc auto entry technology. • The high percentage that are not considering hosted applications is likely driven by concerns over data security. Preference for Scanned Data Storage For accountants already using or considering using software to extract data from scanned documents, local data storage is most important to accountants, consistent with other findings in the study Data on software vendor secure server All data remains in office Accuracy is more important as long as data secured * Note: a third option was offered that was non-specific on data storage and made accuracy more important Q13: Currently there are several different software solutions available that allow you to scan in source documents (W2’s, 1099’s) and have the data imported into your tax program.
