Dental Hygiene Program • Dental hygienists are licensed healthcare professionals who are skilled in preventing diseases such as dental caries (cavities), periodontal (gum) disease and oral cancer through education and treatment. • A dental hygienist with a Baccalaureate Degree is prepared to assume roles as a clinician, an educator, a researcher, a change agent, a consumer advocate, and a manager. • They are licensed preventive oral health professionals who provide educational, clinical and therapeutic services that support total health through the promotion of optimal oral health. • http://www.dentistry.umn.edu/programs_admissions/dental_hygiene_division/home.html

Dental School Tour • Tour will be on Tuesday, April 3rd • 4:00pm-4:45pm • Meet on 4th floor outside of simulation clinic • Down the hall and to the right of the escaladers • Sign-up if you have not done so already!
Children’s Dental Service Tour • Opportunity to tour one of the best places for Dental shadowing and volunteer experience! • Tour will be on Saturday, March 3rdat 1pm • Meet behind Coffman at 12:30pm • Sign-up sheet with driver info as well
ASDA Event • The next ADSA event will be on Thursday, February 23rd! • 5:30pm In the 3M Simulation Clinic • (4th floor Moos Tower, just follow the ASDA signs once you get to the 4th floor). • Impressions and pouring up casts. • Paired with a dental student for this event so make sure to take advantage of it by asking lots of questions! • No sign-up needed, just show up • As long as ASDA member

2012 Collaborative Health Care Event • April 12th, 6:30-8:30pm in STSS #412 • Program (2011, this year would be similar) • 6:05-Welcome • 6:10-Guest Speaker: Steve Schondelmeyer on Health Care Reform • 6:30-Guest Speaker: Don Uden on Diabetes Mellitus Type 2 • 6:35-Inter-professional Case Study - small group discussion • 6:50-Case Study debrief by Tricia Todd • 7:20-Health Care professional panelists debrief • 7:50-Wrap up and door prizes • Goal: To bring together pre-health students and introduce them to interprofessional perspectives of patient care
