The Life of the olmecs • The olmecs lived in the area of the Mexican Costal Plans of Southern Veracruz and Tabaco. • Olmecs were the first people to use a written language, as well as the first to cultivate and use the Cacao tree. • Olmec's originated in 1250 B.C and disappeared around 400 B.C

  3. arts • They made fine pottery and carved jade jewelry • Incredible findings from the Olmec culture are the sculptures. • The elements used for the making is wood , basalt and jade to make statues

  4. MASKS • This mas was probably worn around the neck as a pendant and may have given the wearer a new identity, perhaps that of an ancestor or a god who mad by the Olmec's the earliest known settles civilization of Central America.

Culture • They were a little known cultural of people who share customs, history, beliefs, and other traits of ancient Mesoamerica • No one knew they have lived in fact most people assumed the Olmec's had lived after the ancient Maya • They were hunting gathers within a local area and would also have supported a sedentary lifestyle. • Animals were strong symbols in there religion . As the elite became strong, the elite are now considered gods themselves which changed the dynamics of the whole religious and social organization
