BOC Standards Committee The Standards Committee recommends entry-level and continuing education requirements and policies to the BOC Board of Directors (BOC-BOD) and reviews relevant issues at the request of the BOC-BOD. Additionally, the Standards Committee reviews the Code of Professional Practice and recommends any revisions to the BOC-BOD.

BOC Standards Committee Earlyspring 2010 • Survey conducted with certified athletic trainers on the current CE requirements • 12,000 responses • These included comments for all current categories as well as general comments
BOC Standards Committee May 2010 • Reviewed all data • Committee members assigned categories to thoroughly review all comments • Compilation of results to be discussed at face to face meeting
BOC Standards Committee July 2010 • Committee meets at BOC office in Omaha • Survey results reviewed • Formulation of draft for recommended changes to CE requirements • Committee members to review draft and make any suggested revisions
BOC Standards Committee August 2010 • Revisions to draft discussed via conference call and via Sharepoint discussion board • Final draft readied for public comment

BOC Standards Committee • Definition: • Continuing education requirements are intended to promote continued competence, development of current knowledge and skills and enhancement of professional skills and judgment. • Remove reference to entry-level practice
BOC Standards Committee • CEU’s: • Reduce yearly/total hours required • Quality over quantity approach • Looked at CE trends in other medical and healthcare professions
BOC Standards Committee • Reporting period: • 2 years • CPR required once per cycle • 85% of state regulatory agencies have a biennial or annual renewal
BOC Standards Committee • CE feedback form • All approved providers to use BOC created feedback/evaluation form • Improve quality control
BOC Standards Committee • CATEGORIES • Category A (new category): • Qualified/Enhanced Competency Coursework • Pre-approved courses meeting a higher level of quality • Evidence based content
BOC Standards Committee • Category B • Approved Competence Programs • Includes Home Study that would be reviewed for number of CE’s only • More rigorous audit system • Courses rated by AT’s
BOC Standards Committee • Category C: • Non-Approved Competence Programs • Require completion documentation that includes an exam for multi-media/CDs, etc
BOC Standards Committee • Category D: • Post-Certification – college/university coursework • Accredited AT Residency/Fellowship • Medical residency removed
BOC Standards Committee • Category E: • Professional & Scholarly Activities • Add clinical research study team • Remove EMT training (can use Cat A,C or D) • Remove Examiner/Model
BOC Standards Committee Current requirements extended to 12/31/13 Any changes for 2014 will be announced in 2012
