  1. Revised Core Model Ben Cope, representing the agency modeling team June 25, 2009

  2. Model Update Process • Quality Assurance Project Plan in February • issues of concern to stakeholders included • data submitted by stakeholders considered • Modelers’ Workshop in February • Draft Core Model Report in March • 3 Conference Calls • Month delay in project to do additional work • Final Core Model Report - June 11th • All model files are posted and available

  3. Tasks Accomplished • Combined calibration for Idaho and Washington reaches • Assessed two years for calibration (2000 & 2001) • Used variable stoichiometry • better tracking of discharge constituents • Used latest groundwater inflow data • Reviewed issues • wind direction • algae settling rates • algae characteristics

  4. Many Comparisons with Measured Water Quality

  5. Example : Lake Spokane 2001 Summer Dissolved Oxygen Segment 187 Segment 174

  6. Are we done with the core model? • Yes…the core model is finished for the proposed TMDL • New information could lead agencies to refine the core model prior to the final TMDL, such as: • new data that conflicts with existing model setup • discovery of errors (e.g., data entry error) • modelers find significantly better calibration with a different set of model parameters or assumptions
