  2. The cosmetic potential of herbal extracts is varied and huge. With the cosmetic industry flourishing by leaps and bounds, the use of herbal extractshas increased manifold. Cosmetics alone are not enough to take care of the skin health. So, herbal cosmetics are gaining much popularity among people due to the benefits associated with herbs. Herbal cosmetics are effective for routine use in daily life as they are devoid of side effects. Hence, the trend is shifting towards using products with natural ingredients. Since there are chances of skin sensitisation, photosensitisation, photo toxicity etc. due to the usage of products with chemical extracts, people are preferring cosmetics with herbal extracts for hair, skin and dental care.

  3. Herbal Extracts in Cosmetics Herbal extracts are generally added to the cosmetic preparations due to their anti-oxidant properties. These anti-oxidants are classified into three depending on the constituents as carotenoids, flavonoids, and polyphenols. Apart from these, herbal extracts have anti-inflammatory properties also. These extracts help to block the inflammatory changes and thus provide ample support in reversing the signs of aging. Usage of Herbal Extracts in Herbal Cosmetics & Pharmacology Various types of formulations are prepared for the same herbal extracts for its ease in use. The formulations like cream, ointment, lotion, suspension, powders, compact and solutions can be used as per the need. Cosmetics made of herbal extracts involve use of drugs in various forms. Among them, the most widely used format is herbal extracts. Various researchers have evaluated the herbal extracts for its cosmetic potential as well.

  4. Use of Herbal Extracts in Cosmetics There are several reasons to use Herbal extracts in cosmetics. The prominent among them include anti-oxidant, anti-inflammatory, topical anaesthetics and anti-pruritics anti cellulites and hair loss treatment. There are several polyphenloics and flavonoids in cosmetics for the anti-oxidant and UV blocking potential. For anti-inflammatory properties, aloe vera has been effectively used. There is a saturated dicarboxylic acid found in wheat, and barley, which is good for hair loss treatment. Even though herbal extracts provide good benefits for the people, one should cross check them before putting into use. They can have adverse effects on individuals in some cases. Hence, it is mandatory to have a thorough check about its after effects.
