It allows therefore the creation of several databases, as for instance the 3D stelae and cippus database and others, concerning in particular the archaeological excavations of Cavallino (LE).

Workshop “From 2D to the 3D world” Ottawa, 26-28/02/01 - NRC Coordinamento SIBA Università degli Studi di Lecce 3D ARCHAEO 3D Stelae and Cippus On the front side we see a very low and flat relief whereon we can recognize two horses attached to a two-wheel vehicle and a human shape, in a primitive representation, where all elements are taken to pieces and spread over a single plane.

Workshop “From 2D to the 3D world” Ottawa, 26-28/02/01 - NRC Coordinamento SIBA Università degli Studi di Lecce 3D ARCHAEO 3D Stelae and Cippus This example (107x51x14 cm) has been discovered in the ancient Messapian settlement of “Muro Tenente” in the province of Brindisi. It is a stele on which we can see a war chariot and two rows of hoplites with helmets and long lances.

Workshop “From 2D to the 3D world” Ottawa, 26-28/02/01 - NRC Coordinamento SIBA Università degli Studi di Lecce 3D ARCHAEO 3D Stelae and Cippus As specified by Prof. D’Andria, we can find in this stele, as in the one of Cavallino, a reticulated rectangular motif at the lateral side, and, at the front side, again we see a representation in which all elements are taken into pieces and spread over a single plane (this causes an apparent overlapping of the two rows of hoplites).

To this purpose some digital photos have been used, produced with the digital photocamera Kodak Dc 265 of the Laboratory for the Digital Image Acquisition and Processing of the SIBA Coordination.
